I was told by some holistic doctors and health-conscious friends to totally avoid sugar. The theory has been that sugar feeds cancer. But others who question that theory explain that sugar feeds all our cells, and is a necessary nutrient. This study resolves some of the conflict by implicating fructose as well as refined sugar and looking specifically at how it might encourage the growth of cancer.
I usually try to avoid sugar, saving it for occasional special desserts that are to die for -- tiramisu, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, other pies, chocolate mousse with whipped cream, sweets given to me, desserts in restaurants -- okay, time to take inventory of how I'm killing myself. I think I've indulged myself with all those and more during the holidays; this study might help me adopt more prudent ways.
